FCTA Workers To Embark On Indefinite Strike On Monday

Workers under the Federal Capital Territory, FCTA, have announced an indefinite strike action to begin on Monday, January 19, 2026, following what they described as the authorities’ failure to address long-standing labour and welfare demands.
The strike was declared by the Joint Unions Action Congress (JUAC), which directed all categories of workers across the FCT to withdraw their services as the Unions insist that their demands have been ignored for too by the authorities.
According to the strike notice which was electronically signed by the JUAC Secretary, the strike action will affect all FCTA secretariats, departments, agencies, area councils and parastatals.
The decision to embark on the strike followed the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum which JUAC said was issued to the FCTA management, which was met with silence despite series of meetings held during that period.
JUAC listed several unresolved issues leading to the strike, including the non-payment of outstanding wage awards, unpaid promotion arrears, delayed promotions, and the continued extension of service for retired directors and permanent secretaries.
The Unions also alleged that the administration had failed to remit workers’ pension contributions and National Housing Fund (NHF) deductions.
They further raised concerns over the the outcome of the 2024 promotion examinations which it said affected about 77.5% of candidates, a situation the Unions described as unacceptable and demoralising for its members.
JUAC therefore, urged all workers in the FCT to fully comply with the directive until their demands are met.
