We @patriotdovenews.com.ng recognise the vital contribution of teachers to education and society and stand by them in this year World Teachers’ Day, whose theme for 2026 is: “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures.”
In view of this fact therefore, we call on national and subnational governments in Nigeria to take far-reaching steps to address challenges teachers are encountering in the discharge of their professional responsibility, and the support required to help them put in their maximum best to help pupils and students learn, develop and succeed, for the overall benefit of humanity.
This year celebration taking place at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, is featuring high-level discussions and the ninth UNESCO-Hamdan Price ceremony.
The 2026 World Teachers’ Day mark the 60th anniversary of the 1996 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the status of Teachers.
