Human Trafficking: Blue North Initiative To The Rescue
The Blue North Foundation (BNF), also known as Blue North Initiative (BNI) in Nigeria, is a Non-Government, Non-profit Organisation which was established in 2021, has emerged from a profound commitment to combat one of humanity’s most pressing issues: human trafficking.
It was in recognition of the alarming rise in human trafficking cases and the devastation toll it takes on individuals and communities, that the founders of BNI aimed to create a robust non-governmental, non-profit organisation that would serve to enlighten the public, empower communities, and build capacity for sustainable change.
Indeed, drawing from their experiences in witnessing the heartbreaking consequences of trafficking and exploitation, the founders of BNI made the mission of the organisation clear from the onset, which is to enhance public awareness of human trafficking and to develop effective preventive measures. Of course the organisation envisioned a world which individuals and communities are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves and others from the scourge of trafficking. And this vision was shared through public campaigns, community workshops, and collaborations with local organisations.
There is no surprising that in its inaugural year, the Blue North Initiative initiated several key programmes aimed at achieving its mission, which included Public Awareness Campaigns, Collaborative Efforts Advocacy and Policy Influence.
The good news is that through these initiated key programmes, the BNI has by the year 2025, garnered recognition as a vital force in the fight against human trafficking, and the organisation is not resting on its oars – more dedicated efforts aimed at expanding its programmes to reach underserved communities, and enhancing its training offerings, are being pursued.
