President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally joined the the 2027 presidential race on Friday July 10, 2026, retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) presented the nomination forms of president Tinubu and Shettima to the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwada, in Abuja for onward transmission to INEC, thereby ending months of speculation that the president could replace his deputy with a northern Christian.
The nomination forms were submitted on behalf of Tinubu by his Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari, during a brief event attended by APC leaders at the Continental Hotel in Abuja.
The submission of the nomination forms officially confirm Tinubu’s bid for a second term and signals the APC’s decision to maintain the Tinubu-Shettima ticket for the forthcoming presidential election.
