Sociology Graduate Murdered, Dumped In Abuja Canal.

A 29-year-old Sociology graduate of the Kogi State University, Blessing Moshood, was allegedly murdered last week Thursday night and her body dumped inside a canal in Jikwoyi, Abuja.

Speaking with Daily Trust on Sunday, 24th May, 2026, the deceased sister, Abigail Moshood revealed that Blessing left their home around 8pm on Thursday after speaking with someone on the phone.

According to her, the deceased called back an hour later, saying she would return home briefly to pick up her phone charger, which she had forgotten.

Abigail further said that the family became worried when she (Blessing) failed to return home that night or make further contact the next day.

She explained that the whole situation changed when the family later heard the story of a female corpse in a canal, whose description of her hairstyle by residents matched that of her sister.

“We later heard people talking about the body of a woman discovered inside a canal and someone described the type of hairstyle the deceased had on, which matched my sister’s,” she said.

“My mother started crying, and we also learnt that policemen from the Jikwoyi Police Station had evacuated the corpse, which was found half-naked with only a top on, to a mutuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.”

Abigail said she later visited Jikwoyi Police Station to inquire about the incident and was shown photographs of the deceased, which confirmed it was her sister.

A neighbour, Margaret, described the late Blessing as an intelligent and friendly person, who graduated with a Second Class Upper in Sociology. She said children within the neighbourhood have been crying since they learnt of her death.

Another neighbour, Abdullahi Musa, has appealed to security agencies to intensify surveillance around the Jikwoyi Medical Centre to apprehend criminals involved in phone snatching and other criminal activities.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent (SP) Josephine Adeh, has confirmed the incident, and stated that investigations into the case are ongoing.
